We have institutionalized a new breed of Lit Fests
themed around celebrating Bengali Literature in unlikely
rural settings allowing participants to connect their writings
with nature. Sans grand ceremonial jamborees yet having unconventional
themes & locations, help an author to express a symbolic gesture to the
world of creative writing.
Our 2022 inaugural edition themed “Tale of the Hills, From the Hills,
In the Hills” , coined “Paharparbo” was aptly hosted in the North Bengal
hamlets of Lava and Rishyap. We want to uphold stories relating to our l
ove for the mountains, of people living there, of their culture and stories
spun out of life in the hills.
An open invitation sent out calling all professional and amatuer
authors resulted in a huge number of entries, from which our
editorial board selected 15 stories which were compiled into a
best-selling collection of short stories. The book was published at
the Kolkata International Bookfair in 2023.
At the Lit Fest, we did cover releases, author meetups,
cultural celebrations with the local tribes, writing workshops
and book reading sessions. The event was attended by over 40
eminent people from the Bengali Literary landscape and was a
resounding success by virtue of being an inaugural edition.
This has now paved the way and encouraged us to plan for subsequent
annual editions and we look forward to finding support from all our patrons.
We believe in spreading our happiness and sharing our moments. Here we offer you a short glimpse into some of the key moments from the event. For our patrons, who could not attend in person, we offer you a chance at understanding the depth of our commitment.
We are thankful to the support extended by our sponsors, without whose support this event would not have been possible and we would like to acknowledge the passion they share with our vision of upholding the love for the richness of Bengali Language.
Highlights from the event that we want to frame into the best moments have been put into this gallery. While there were over a million such moments perhaps, the ones that remain in our hearts are available here for you to share it with us.
Certain stories were handpicked by us for reproduction into audio stories via our official partner, Tahaann-Tales of Bengal (a community building group). These are not audio-books, instead the original stories were recreated using scripted dialogs, original sound-tracks and background music recorded at our studios. For those, running short of time to read, you can listen to the Paharparbo outcomes on the go.
